Eyelets and curtains - the perfect combination?
The main difference between these curtains is the grommets themselves and the smooth folds formed by them. The grommets are rings of different diameter, which are mounted in the upper part of the curtain. They are put on a round cornice, after which the curtain finishes, a neat drape forms on it.
The type of drapery will depend on how often the grommets are fixed and what diameter they are chosen. Plays the role and density of the fabric. The design of such curtains is greatly influenced by the fabric - the lighter the material you like, the finer the folds will be. If large and heavy waves are important to you, then it is necessary to give preference to heavy material.
Curtains for the kitchen on the grommet have the following advantages:
- Rings form folds of the same volume, so these curtains will have a very neat appearance and create a sense of order;
- Rings can be easily installed with your own hands; this does not require a sewing machine or special skills;
- In addition, they slide along the eaves well, so it will be convenient and easy to draw and open windows;
- The curtains on the grommets can be quickly hung and also quickly removed;
- Grommets can highlight a beautiful eaves design;
- They are the best suited for modern styles: minimalism, ScandinavianAmerican modern, high tech and loft and fusion.
Minuses:
- Minor minus - to remove and hang such curtains you need to lift the entire eaves;
- In order for the folds to be beautiful and even, the curtains will have to be tweaked from time to time - the rings must be equally spaced from each other;
- This type of mount is not always suitable for classical and close to him styles. On the other hand, if you choose the right design of fabric and cornice, then the eyelets on the curtains will not violate the unity of style in the interior of the kitchen. The photo below confirms this.
Rules for the selection of fabric - color, length, fold volume
If you can choose any elegant and heavy fabrics for the bedroom and living room, in the kitchen not only the design of the curtains is important, but also their dirt, light, durability and ease of washing. Velvet, velor and other loose materials absorb fat and odors. Of course, these fabrics must be discarded.
Mixed fabrics or flax are best for the kitchen - these are beautiful materials that can be easily washed if necessary.
How to make the right choice of colors and textures of fabrics for sewing curtains with your own hands and what to look for when buying a finished product?
Be sure to consider the size of your kitchen. So, the curtains on the grommet for small kitchen should be light, bright, without a pattern, or with a small print and preferably not long. If the kitchen is located on the north side, fit short curtains, for example, in the form of a lambrequin.Arguments in favor of short curtains on grommets: in winter, they do not interfere with the passage of light and warm air from radiators, they are easier to sew with your own hands and easier to wash.
When choosing / tailoring curtains length just below the window sill, do not forget about safety - they should be kept away from the plate.
Rings can be installed even on the lightest and most delicate fabrics, for example, organza. Therefore, tulle on grommets is well suited for small or dark "northern" kitchens.
On curtains for small-sized kitchens, we do not recommend attaching grommets far apart. Lush folds visually reduce space. In addition, it is better to choose the eaves and eyelets of small diameter. The same recommendations are relevant for narrow and small windows.
A large area allows you to choose curtains of any length, even the floor.
Colors with any volume of folds, with a complex pattern and decor. On the next photo in the interior spacious kitchen-living room curtains on grommets and at all dark color.
In a studio apartment, kitchen, living room or dining room, you can hang curtains of bright color with a large pattern.
The main rule when choosing curtains for kitchen grommets is to repeat the tone of the finish, for example, wallpaper or apron, furniture or textiles and decor.
Universal colors - white, beige, gray. Read more about the combination of colors in the kitchen interior. here.
Want to use the curtains to visually change the proportions of the room? Do not forget that the horizontal patterns expand the walls, and the vertical ones raise the ceiling.
Get two sets of curtains - for winter and for summer. This saves materials from burnout and significantly extends the life of their services.
If you can’t imagine an interior without double-layer curtains, then use a modern combination - not light tulle with heavy curtains, but curtains on grommets in combination with jalousie, Roman or roll models. This design looks stylish and at the same time - modern.
Selection rules
Eyelets for kitchen curtains can be metal and wood, but plastic is most often used, which perfectly imitates metal (from antique copper to steel chrome), wood, and, also, can be colored.
Metal is often made with a coating (matte or glossy) - it is gold, copper, bronze, silver or chrome. Also here are not uncommon grooved, chased surfaces.
Plastic eyelets are not only cheaper, but are also considered more practical, because they are light, do not corrode, move easily along the ledge, and are distinguished by a large variety of shades.
The circular grommets are considered standard, but they can be anything - in the form of a sun, a flower, or dolphins. Such volumetric figures should correspond to the fabric pattern or decorative additions to the interior.
The design of the grommets should match the fabric - thin products are selected for light curtains and massive for heavy curtains. As for color, the tone of the fastening rings does not necessarily have to match the fabric of the curtains - you can pick them up to match the cornice, fittings or decor in the kitchen.
Master Class - We sew eyelet curtains
So, how to sew the curtains on the grommet?
It is easy to make curtains on eyelets with your own hands, and the design potential of such a product is huge, because it will always look stylish and impressive.
This will require cloth and eyelets, pencil and scissors, a special eyelet tape (it can be replaced with a dublerin or interlining). This is done to ensure that the top is tough, neat and forms an even drape.
Grommet tape is glued to the fabric with a hot iron. After that, you need to stitch all the folds.
The contours of the holes are outlined according to the proposed template or along the inner circumference of the crown itself. Holes for installation of eyelets are cut out either with scissors or with a sharpened pipe of a suitable diameter.
The number of eyelets on the curtain must necessarily be even, as uniform waves are formed on them.
As for the distance between the grommets, the standard here is the value of 18-22 cm.If you want to get a design with a little less voluminous folds, 15 cm will be enough.
It is also important to correctly calculate the dimensions of the fabric - in this case, the width will be equal to two lengths of the cornice, and the width of the grommet (10-15 cm) and the hem allowances must be added to the length.
Very detailed, simple and clear about the correct calculation of the length and width of the fabric told and shown in the video:
Sometimes the curtains are not fixed directly on the grommet, but on special loops of ribbons threaded into rings.
