If you have a collection of Gzhel porcelain, you like this kind of folk art or you just want to decorate the interior in an original way, then ... why not use Gzhel as a starting point in creating a kitchen design? After all, its fresh white and blue gamma and beautiful flower or plot painting have a huge decorative potential. On the other hand, it is not so easy to enter gzhel into the interior because of its brightness, “coldness” of color and the activity of the pattern. Let's find out how to avoid mistakes, and what principles need to be guided, making out the kitchen in the style of Gzhel.
Tip 1. Combine Gzhel with the classic, "rustic" or Scandinavian style.
Gzhel motifs can look great in both modern and classic kitchens. Most harmoniously, the white-blue flowers, birds and landscapes will look in the following interior styles:
- Classic;
- Country or Rustic;
- In the style of Russian country house;
- AT Scandinavian interior.
Tip 2. Dilute the blue-white gamut
A blue-white kitchen in the Gzhel style can look fresh and spectacular if most of the time is well lit by the sun. But even in this case Blue colour do not use in large doses, otherwise the interior will become too gloomy and cold. And if the room is dark and faces north, then the blue color is completely acceptable only as an accent.
However, blue and blue tones can and should be balanced by a large amount of white, as well as some warm or neutral shades. According to the principles of the colorist, the following colors will be perfectly combined with the cobalt color of Gzhel:
- Blue;
- Beige;
- Green;
- Brown and all wood shades;
- Coral;
- Orange;
- Yellow (especially lemon and creamy shades);
- Black (in small quantities);
- Gold and Bronze.
If you do not feel confident in the issue of interior color design, then apply a win-win scheme: white walls + neutral color floor + sets with white facades + white furniture + white-blue curtains or one blue / white-blue wall + accessories in Gzhel style.
Below is an example of an interior with a more complex color range. Here, designer Eva Bergman added green accents to the Gzhel-style kitchen.
Tip 3. Combine gzhel with Delft or Chinese blue-white porcelain motifs.
The closest relatives of Gzhel are white and blue Chinese and Delft china. If desired, these motifs can be combined.For example, upholstered sofa with Dutch landscapes (in the style of painting Delft porcelain as in the photo below) will harmoniously side by side with Gzhel dishes on the table.
Tip 4. Remember the sense of proportion
The drawing of Gzhel is bright and self-sufficient, and therefore it is very easy to overload the interior. But, using it as an accent, you will achieve an amazing result. Here are some tips to help you avoid mistakes.
- Approximately 80% of the surfaces in the kitchen should be solid or have an unobtrusive texture. That is, if you want to decorate an apron with tiles in the Gzhel style, then the kitchen set should be simply white or blue.
- Before you begin to repair and design the future of the kitchen, it is necessary to design its design to the last detail in advance. So you will avoid mistakes and be able to come up with interesting combinations of textures, prints and colors.
- Do not simultaneously decorate the kitchen with white and blue tiles in an apron, curtains, kitchen textiles, dishes, chandeliers, souvenirs and furniture. It will be enough dishes on the table, a collection of accessories on a decorative shelf and, say, tiles or glass panel in apron in the style of Gzhel painting (pictured).
Tip 5. Large Gzhel ornament is appropriate on the walls of a large kitchen, but not small.
If your small kitchen or narrow, the measure needs to be known not only in quantity, but also in the size of the picture. Wall decoration with large floral patterns is not desirable here. However, if you wish, you can select only one wall for wallpaper in the Gzhel style, and paint the rest in white or blue.
Tip 6. Blue color is perfectly combined with natural wood and gold.
Wood is a warm, natural material that perfectly complements the coldness of blue. If you want to create an atmosphere of coziness in the kitchen, then the wooden floor, tabletop and / or furniture will help you to achieve this.
Another way to decorate the interior of a blue-white kitchen in the Gzhel style is to add gold-plated or bronze details to it. For example, it may be kitchen handles, faucet, chandelier, candlesticks, vases, dishes and furniture elements as in the photo below.
Tip 7. Combine gzhel motifs with other textile prints.
So that Gzhel in the interior of the kitchen does not look dull and intrusive, add a few simple and classic prints to the decor: polka dots, cage, diamond or strip. Best of all, they will look on curtains, upholstery, pillows, tablecloths and other kitchen textiles. So the situation will be more relaxed.
- At the same time, remember that in the kitchen with plain walls it is permissible to combine two or three different prints, and if the walls or its large fragment are decorated with a pattern, then you can use textiles of only one or two colors with one or at most two types of ornaments (peas, cell or strip).
